There's good news for Manchester United as Lisandro Martinez is closing in on a full return to training after eight months out with injury.

The Argentine has been out of action since picking up an anterior cruciate ligament injury in February 2025.

Following a scan to his left knee last week, the 27 year old looks closer to return however United will not rush the process.

It is reported he will be phased into full training sessions again before getting minutes on the pitch.

The optimism was backed by teammate Casemiro who said Martinez is "on the final straight" of his recovery.

It's a sign of positivity for Ruben Amorim as the centre-back inches closer to full fitness.

Apart from Martinez and Moroccan International Noussair Mazraoui, the Red Devils have a fully fit squad ahead of the clash with reigning Premier League champions Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday October 19.

United will need to be in battle mode following international break

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has backed Amorim in his job and said he needs to prove himself as a good coach.

But he's going to need a dedicated and motivated side to help him make his point.

A major fixture like Liverpool, on return from international break, is going to be task that United will have to face with full force.

There will be no leeway for mistakes if the Red Devils are to prove to their fans that there's hope in the side.

They currently sit 10th in the table, which is better than where they ended last year, but with the history of the side, United are always expected to do more.

It's clear they should return to glory, to the top five, but it's going to be a task with the current state of the club to climb that mountain.

But making the most of the rest of the fixtures ahead of 2026 will be important.
