Jose Mourinho’s time at Fenerbahce is over. The Turkish club confirmed that they have parted ways with the Portuguese coach after failing to qualify for the Champions League group stage.

Mourinho’s side lost 1-0 on aggregate to Benfica in the playoff round, and the board acted quickly.

In an official statement, Fenerbahce said: “Our Professional Football First Team's technical director, Jose Mourinho, who has been carrying out his duties starting from the 2024-2025 season, has parted ways with us. We thank him for his efforts for our team until today and wish him success in his future career.”

The exit continues a pattern in Mourinho’s later years. His Fenerbahce stay was short, following a similar story at Roma earlier in 2024.

The “Special One” still draws headlines, but results are no longer as special.

How many times Jose Mourinho has been sacked in his managerial career?

This is the sixth time Mourinho has been dismissed. His list of sackings reads like a who’s who of European football: twice at Chelsea (2007, 2015), Manchester United (2018), Tottenham (2021), Roma (2024), and now Fenerbahce (2025).

That record sums up modern football. Even legends are only as secure as their last result. Mourinho once conquered Europe with Porto and delivered a treble at Inter.

But at most clubs, he has eventually been shown the door. Apparently, loyalty in football these days lasts shorter than a VAR check.

Reports suggest Fenerbahce will name an interim coach soon before appointing a long-term replacement. For Mourinho, the question lingers: does another big job still await, or is this the final whistle at the highest level?

One thing is clear — the Special One’s career continues to be as dramatic as his press conferences. He may not be lifting Champions League trophies anymore, but he remains box-office in world football.
