Jordan Pickford has made history as an England goalkeeper, after they secured a spot in the World Cup on October 14.

The Three Lions beat Latvia 5-0, after a double from Harry Kane, goals from Anthony Gordon and Eberechi Eze, and an unfortunate own goal from Maksims Tonisevs.

But it was the Everton man who made the mark in the performance by achieving nine consecutive games with a clean sheet - a feat no other goalkeeper has achieved for England.

Pickford has played the full 90 minutes of the last nine games without letting a goal slip past him.

The game against Latvia also marked his 80th England cap.

Before him, the record was held by Gordon Banks with the last game of that tally coming the 1966 World Cup Quarter Finals.

The record means Pickford has gone over a year without conceding a goal for his national side.

England's number 1 has been a key component to their form as of late, and an important fixture in Thomas Tuchel's line up.

The question now asks - is he England's most reliable keeper of all time?

Pickford closing in on new Everton contract

Though the pen has not yet been put to paper officially, the England keeper is said to have agreed new terms to a contract extension at Everton.

It was revealed on October 13 that Pickford was close to confirming the new deal and said to the media;  "I think it's agreed."

"I have got my England head on. We will see what happens after that but, yes, we are in a good place."

The 31 year old joined The Toffees back in 2017 for £30 million from his boyhood club Sunderland - a British record fee for a goalkeeper at the time.

His contract currently runs to 2027, but it seems that the club want to extend that partnership further.

Everton seem keen to want to extend contracts with key players. Earlier this month James Tarkowski signed a new two-year deal.

And with Pickford's strength in performance, he's someone the Liverpudlian club will not want to see go.

Over his 329 appearances for the club, he's won player of the year four times.

Pickford been a key component in keeping Everton in the Premier League amidst managerial sackings, financial rule breaches and points deductions.

So after breaking England records, it's only right that Everton want to lockdown Pickford for the long-term.
