Harry Kane breaks silence on playing different role for Bayern in Jamal Musiala's absence image

Bayern Munich are off to a rollicking start with 10 straight wins to kickstart the 2025/26 campaign and a lot of that credit goes to manager Vincent Kompany for marshalling his players with aplomb.

In this period several Bayern Munich players have been in exceptional form, but none have been like Harry Kane, who has already netted 18 goals this season.

He once again was on the scoresheet in Bayern Munich's 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

However, the 32-year-old brilliance isn't limited to the stat sheet as he has improved his pressing and work rate and also keeps the Bayern Munich attack ticking by facilitating others whilst playing in a deeper role.

The Englishman has adapted to deeper role in Munich especially in Jamal Musiala's absence as he is out for a prolonged period after suffering a ligament tear against PSG in the Club World Cup

After Saturday's win over Frankfurt, Kane touched upon playing in a deeper role and how it has actually helped him in his goalscoring.

"I've spoken already about when Jamal's playing it's a little bit different. Jamal is such a good player, getting the ball off defenders, driving and dribbling," Kane told in an interaction with Archie Rhind-Tutt and Thomas Hitzlsperger.

"Obviously a lot last year when we were playing together, it was better for him to go and do that. I still did that at times.

"I think since me and Serge [Gnabry], and me and Nico [Jackson] have been forming that partnership this season, it's allowed me to just be a little bit deeper and use my qualities in that sense of turning and playing it forward and playing it out wide, and then arriving into the box a little bit later.

"Which also helps. Sometimes when you're playing up there as a nine, it's easy to be marked, to be marked out of the game almost. Even my goal today, arriving a little bit late, I finished it off."

According to Opta, Kane became the first player to score 11 goals in the first six Bundesliga games which asserts his dominance in leading the lines for Bayern Munich.

His goal against Frankfurt on Saturday was a perfect exhibition of him finding new avenues to score whilst playing in a deeper role than he is used to in the past.

In the buildup to the goal, Luis Diaz moved to a number 9 role as Kane dropped deep in midfield. Joshua Kimmich played the ball right into Diaz's path and with Serge Gnabry and Michael Olise pinned by Frankfurt defenders, Diaz played it towards Kane, who launched a long ranger which nestled into Kuau Santos' goal.

Despite leading the lines for Bayern, Kompany has allowed the Englishman with a lot of freedom, and he has flourished in such a role.

To put matters into perspective, Kane started in a more second striker role against Pafos FC in Champions League when Jackson took the number 9 role.

Despite playing in an unnatural position. Kane scored a brace while Jackson also found the net in a 5-0 win for the German giants.

With him leading from the front, Bayern Munich have been soaring this season as they registered a club record by winning 10 straight games this season whilst scoring 36 goals and conceding only eight.
