It's been a stuttering summer transfer window for Bayern Munich in terms of new signings and player sales.

While they have secured a handful of new players in the off-season, they have only sold a couple of names from their surplus list.

One player who headed for the Allianz Arena exit door was Mathys Tel, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Tottenham, who eventually opted to activate their purchase clause on the Frenchman.

In half a season, Tel impressed the Tottenham hierarchy with his versatility and work ethic, and they firmly believe in his potential despite his minimal goal output.

Tottenham also landed a good deal for the 20-year-old forward, reportedly signing him for £30m [$40.7m] after paying a £8.5m [$11.6m] loan fee in January.

Tel also confirmed he spoke to Harry Kane before embarking on a permanent move to Premier League - and the Englishman who had spent his entire career in North London - insisted on him joining Spurs.

What did Harry Kane say about Mathys Tel's Tottenham move?

Kane, who remains Tottenham's record goal scorer believes Tel has the quality to succeed for Spurs under new boss Thomas Frank.

Mathys Tel Tottenham 02112025

"He’s got great potential. Whether he’s playing as a left winger or a striker, he gets into dangerous areas, he can finish well, and he’s good one-v-one," Kane told Tottenham's official website

"I don’t want to put too much pressure on him - he’s going to the Premier League, he’s still extremely young although he has a lot of experience here, he still has to develop and improve, he knows that and works hard to do it. I just want him to go and enjoy himself, have confidence, and hopefully he can shine in the Premier League."

Tel moved to Bayern in 2022, after they spied his great potential, signing him from Rennes for £25m [$33.2m].

He managed 10 goals in the 2023/24 campaign, across 41 matches, with seven goals coming in the Bundesliga.

However, things have just not worked out for the 20-year-old since Vincent Kompany's arrival in Bavaria, as he only featured in 14 games with four starts.

A move to Tottenham could give him a new lease of life, as he can establish himself in North London, if he manages to deliver a big season for Frank in his own maiden campaign at the club.
