One of Burnley's key contributors in helping steer the club back up the Premier League seems to have finally sorted out his future.

Josh Brownhill decided against renewing his contract at Turf Moor after last season, bringing an end to a six-year stay with The Clarets.

The 29-year-old's decision was based around him wanting to further his development and challenge himself with a new project.

The midfielder's departure came as a massive blow to Scott Parker's side due to how impactful he was on the pitch last season.

Wearing the captain's armband, he netted 18 goals and registered six assists in the league as Burnley secured automatic promotion to the top flight of English football.

It was expected that Brownhill would remain in England or potentially move to Scottish giants Celtic.

News broke just over a week ago of Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab offering Brownhill a lucrative contract worth £100k per week to join.

Per Graeme Bailey, the midfielder has now accepted the offer to move to the Saudi side and he has committed to a two-year deal with the club.

Everton, Leeds and Wolves were keen to add Brownhill to their ranks and offer him Premier League football, but he turned down offers from those clubs.

Also, Brentford made a late push to sign the free agent but Brownhill had his mind set on a move to Al Shabab.

Sky Sports News reported that the player is on his way to Saudi Arabia to finalise the deal, with his medical set to be undertaken on Friday (September 5).
