Bayern Munich may have reclaimed the Bundesliga title this season, but this is only the start of Vincent Kompany's reign in Bavaria as he aims to revamp the squad to pose a stronger challenge in European competitions.
Kompany is keen to improve on Bayern's backline by bringing in some reinforcements. The Bavarians haven't had the best season in terms of defensive numbers and that is an issue that the Belgian manager is looking to address.
According to reports from Kessler Philipp of TZ Muenchen, Bayern are frontrunners to sign Jonathan Tah this summer. The reports also mentioned the name of Borussia Monchengladbach defender Ko Itakura, who is linked with Bundesliga champions as a backup option.
Coming back to Tah, the German international is all set to leave Bayer Leverkusen as his current contract with the club runs out at the end of this season.
Therefore, clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in the big German defender. Some Premier League clubs like Manchester United are also planning to lure him out of Germany.
So it won't be easy for the Bavarians to persuade the 29-year-old. However, reports in Germany suggest that the Leverkusen defender is inclined towards joining Bayern.

Real Madrid could be an option to consider for Tah
Real Madrid are heavily linked with Xabi Alonso as their potential replacement for Carlo Ancelotti. If the Spaniard comes on board, he has demanded the signature of the German international. So if Alonso's move to Madrid materializes, Tah will have an enticing option.
Los Blancos are also looking to freshen up their backline by signing new players, and Tah brings in a lot of experience and could be a great option for the club.
The Hamburg youth academy graduate joined Leverkusen in 2015, and since then has been associated with the club. However, it wasn't until last season that he tasted success with the club as Levekusen won the domestic double while winning the Bundesliga unbeaten.
He was a crucial part of the team that achieved such unprecedented success, as they also reached the finals of the UEFA Europa League, where they fell short against Atalanta.
The 29-year-old completed 400 appearances for the club as they played out a 2-2 draw against SC Freiburg in the latest Bundesliga fixture. He even scored in that game to celebrate his historic outing.
As per Transfermarkt, Tah ranks sixth among Leverkusen players with the most appearances. Only Rudiger Vollborn (487), Thomas Horster (453), Ulf Kirsten (448), Stefan Kiessling (444), and Carsten Ramelow (437) are ahead of him.
