Bayern Munich have stepped back in the race for Florian Wirtz. The German giants have long admired the Bayer Leverkusen star, but now it seems the midfielder is packing his bags for Merseyside.
Wirtz, one of the brightest young talents in European football, had several clubs on his trail. Bayern, Liverpool, and Manchester City were all keen, but the path now looks clearer for the Reds.
Club president Herbert Hainer confirmed Bayern’s stance, admitting their hopes have faded.
“Max Eberl has informed me that Florian Wirtz is probably leaning towards Liverpool. I can't say how things will continue with Leverkusen,” Hainer told Abendzeitung.
The 22-year-old midfielder played a huge role in Leverkusen’s success last season. His sharp passing, calm under pressure, and goal sense caught everyone’s eye — including clubs outside Germany.
With Liverpool showing real intent, Leverkusen are reportedly expecting an official bid soon.

According to Sky Sports Germany, the Bundesliga champions are looking for a player-plus-cash deal. They’re also hunting for replacements in several positions, knowing that losing Wirtz leaves a big hole.
Bayern Munich search for alternatives after dropping out from Wirtz transfer race
Meanwhile, Bayern have already started looking elsewhere. Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze are on the radar.
Talks have also restarted with Leroy Sane over a new deal. But missing out on Wirtz? That one stings.
For Liverpool, this move could mark the squad overhaul under Arne Slot. If Wirtz does join, it’s not just a smart signing— it’s a statement.
