Bayern Munich legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge shared the opinion that Florian Wirtz 'would be better off at Bayern Munich than at Liverpool.'

Wirtz joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen this summer on a five-year contract for a reported transfer fee of €136.3million (£116m).

While his arrival at Anfield came with a hefty price tag and big expectations, Wirtz is yet to showcase his abilities through contributions for Liverpool. The 22-year-old has started in six out of the seven appearances he has made for Liverpool, during which he recorded only one assist.

Wirtz's lack of contributions on the pitch has brought in some criticism, while questions about his standing in Arne Slot's pecking order have also surfaced after he was named on the bench in Liverpool's last Premier League game and omitted from the Carabao Cup squad.

While former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has urged fans and critics to be patient and allow Wirtz the time to adapt to the league, the German star has recently addressed his rusty beginning at the club, mentioning that his aim is 'to do better each time than before.'

Now, Bayern board member and former CEO Rummenigge has expressed that he feels 'sorry' for Wirtz and the Bavarians' missing out on signing him this summer.

What did former Bayern Munich CEO Rummenigge say about Liverpool's Florian Wirtz?

When asked about Bayern missing out on signing several attacking targets like Wirtz and Nick Woltemade in the last transfer window, Rummenigge told Welt,

"I have to honestly say, I still feel sorry for Florian Wirtz because I think the player would be better off at Bayern Munich than at Liverpool."

"We could have signed Woltemade. But I also have to say that FC Bayern would be well advised not to go along with every financial madness. I've always said that we want sporting success, but please with serious and solid financing."

"We have a top team. We'll be back this year as well. And if the three currently injured players come back soon, then we'll have a superb team."

After starting his senior career with his boyhood club Bayer Leverkusen in 2020, Wirtz registered 197 appearances during which he scored 57 goals and provided 65 assists in five years before joining Liverpool.
