Bayern Munich star Harry Kane defends Bellingham for Der Klassiker blunder image

Bayern Munich continued exceptional winning run to 11 games in the 2025/26 season as they registered a 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund in Bundesliga at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Harry Kane continues to find the net while Michael Olise doubled the lead in the second half. Julian Brandt pulled a goal back for Dortmund but in the end, they were beaten in season's first Der Klassiker.

It was a closely contested match where Bayern gained the lead in the 22nd minute through Kane's brilliance but the second goal came due to Jobe Bellingham's blunder as Olise punished him for showing hesitancy near the Dortmund goal.

The English midfielder came on as a substitute for the visitors in the 73rd minute and while he was expected to inspire a comeback for Niko Kovac's men, he was guilty of holding the ball for too long near Dortmund's goal after incepting a cross. But his indecisiveness meant Olise saw the opportunity and hammered it home, doubling Bayern's lead.

The youngster only had 15 touches in the game during his brief spell in his first ever Der Klassiker which also sums up his overall experience at Dortmund till now.

The 20-year-old midfielder gained a lot of praise for his performances for Sunderland in their promotion to the Premier League and therefore Dortmund decided to sign him for €33m ($38m) this summer.

But unfortunately, unlike his elder brother, Jobe has failed to produce promising performances for Die Borussen. The young midfielder hasn't yet cemented his place in the starting eleven nor has he earned Kovac's trust.

After the error against Bayern Munich, he has faced even more backlash, and his upcoming games will be closely scrutinized by fans and pundits alike.

What did Bayern's Harry Kane say about Bellingham's blunder?

Jobe has featured in all of the 10 matches for Dortmund this season, but he has only started three games overall clocking 322 minutes. He is yet to register a goal contribution for the Bundesliga outfit in this campaign.

Amidst all the negativity and criticism, Bayern Munich talisman Kane has defended the England youngster and though he acknowledged the error in judgement, he feels that it shouldn't affect his development.

"It was a tough situation for him. He tried to control the first ball, but Michael Olise reacted well and slid into the ball. It was unfortunate for Jobe, but he just has to keep going and work hard," Kane told in an interaction with Sky Sports about Bellingham's blunder.

"He's a good player with a lot of potential. I'm sure he wants to play more right now, but that's part of learning at this level. He has a great future ahead of him, he just needs to keep working."

Kovac also backed the young midfielder and felt that he was unfortunate, as he told the reporters, "I can’t find any fault with Jobe. He was standing where he needed to be."

"The ball was played in so sharply. It was an artistic feat in its own right that he didn’t score an own-goal. When a ball is played in so sharply, his first task is to hold his centre of gravity. He had his head down and Olise took advantage of this split second and slid in. That’s not a simple [situation]. There’s no fault. I think that everything is fine with that situation."

With this defeat, Dortmund have dropped to fourth position in the Bundesliga points table and now Kovac will have to shift their focus on midweek Champions League fixture against Copenhagen FC on Wednesday, October 21.
