One of the prominent questions ahead of next year's World Cup is will the Argentina national team captain, Lionel Messi feature in the competition.

Earlier, Messi revealed that playing in the 2026 World Cup is something he is thinking about and will make a decision ahead of the competition.

Most of his associates, including both club and country head coaches, and teammates have expressed hope about Messi's participation in the upcoming World Cup while stating the decision solely lies with the 38-year-old.

Now, one of Messi's national teammates, Nicolas Otamendi, has shared his thoughts on the same.

What did Nicolas Otamendi say about Leo Messi and the 2026 World Cup?

While heaping praise on the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, Otamendi candidly stated (comments via ESPN) that he does not see Messi 'missing out on the World Cup' and told Radio La Red,

"Obviously, as the World Cup gets closer, he will make his decision. But I don't see Leo [Messi] missing out on the World Cup. Leo is Leo, the best player in soccer history. Right now, he's living in the moment. He's enjoying the Club World Cup. Leo's focus is on continuing to compete, taking it month by month and seeing how he feels."

"He will make his decision based on how he feels physically, but you will never take away Leo's desire to compete, to be there, to help the team. It's in his DNA. Leo is different," added the Benfica star.

With the World Cup slated for June next year, Messi and Inter Miami are currently focused on their Round of 16 clash against Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup on June 29 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
