Alexander Isak has made his intentions clear, regardless of a deal being secured this transfer window.

According to The Athletic, the 25-year-old is adamant he will not rejoin the Newcastle squad. The desire to play for Liverpool is too much for the Swede to ignore.

Newcastle have already rejected a bid from the Premier League champions and have stated that he is not for sale.

The rejected bid was said to be worth roughly £110m; however, the Magpies have suggested he could be sold if the bid were closer to £150m and they were able to fill the gap his departure would cause.

Newcastle's transfer woes and Liverpool's huge spend

Eddie Howe's side has had a disappointing summer transfer window, losing out on key targets such as Benjamin Sesko and João Pedro, who have joined Manchester United and Chelsea respectively.

Liverpool will also be looking to bolster their line-up following the departure of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.

The Reds suffered a defeat to Crystal Palace in the Community Shield, with captain Virgil van Dijk keen to add another player up front.

Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong

He told talkSPORT: "I think there's always room for an attacker in order to strengthen us, so let's see what the window brings in terms of the balance of the team."

However, Arne Slot feels that the almost £300m spending spree should be enough for the team to defend their Premier League Champions title.

He said: "With the players we have we should be able to to win, to score. My last concern at the moment is our offensive quality."

The summer transfer window is open until 7pm (BST), September 1, but with Newcastle away at Aston Villa on August 16, any transfer for Isak will need to be completed soon.
