It was a night to remember for two current Premier League strikers participating in World Cup qualification with their respective nations on Monday night (October 13).

Newcastle United's summer signing Nick Woltemade and Crystal Palace frontman Jean-Philippe Mateta both registered their first senior international goals for Germany and France, respectively.

Woltemade netted the only goal of Germany's 1-0 win away to Northern Ireland to keep Julien Nagelsmann's team top of UEFA Group A.

The 23-year-old made use of his major height advantage to meet David Raum's corner-kick with a powerful header 31 minutes into the contest.

The Newcastle striker was making his sixth senior cap for his country, with his debut for the national team having come this past June in the Nations League semi-final against Portugal.

Nagelsmann appears to favour Woltemade as his first-choice striker now, having utilised the player from the start in all six international appearances he has made so far.

Woltemade will be looking to continue finding the net at international level in next month's qualifiers away to Luxembourg (14 November) and at home to Slovakia (November 17), to help secure automatic qualification for Germany to next summer's World Cup.

Mateta makes immediate impact in a French shirt

Mateta managed to get on the scoresheet in France's 2-2 draw away to Iceland in the Group D qualifier.

The Palace star was making his first start for Les Bleus after coming on to make his debut in a 3-0 victory at home to Azerbaijan three days prior.

The 28-year-old's big moment came when he met Maghnes Akliouche's low cross mid-way through the second half to put France 2-1 up.

The goal completed the turnaround for Didier Deschamps' side after they had found themselves 1-0 down at the break due to a Victor Palsson goal.

Mateta's goal would be cancelled out just two minutes later though, as Kristian Hlynsson finished off a slick counter-attack move to rescue a draw for Iceland.

Failure to get all three points meant France missed out on securing automatic qualification to the World Cup. However, the team can book their place to next summer's tournament with a win over Ukraine in Paris on November 13.
