Newcastle United’s new striker Nick Woltemade has wasted little time making headlines both on and off the pitch.
The German forward, signed this summer for £65 million, has already scored on his debut.
Now, ahead of a huge Champions League clash with Barcelona, he has compared himself to some of the game’s biggest names.
Woltemade, just 23, knows the pressure is on after Alexander Isak’s departure to Liverpool.
With Yoane Wissa sidelined, Eddie Howe needs his new No.9 to lead the line. The forward has already promised fans that he offers more than just height and headers.

Nick Woltemade: “A bit of Kane, a bit of Ibrahimovic”

Speaking on the Premier League Podcast, Woltemade described his playing style in unusual fashion: “I’d say a bit of Kane, a bit of Havertz, maybe a bit of Ibrahimovic. I don’t know… it’s hard to say.”
He added that people often assume, because of his 6’6” frame, that he is just a target man. “They might think I’m just good in the air, but I’m also very skillful with my feet, with lots of technique. That’s my playing style.”
The striker even admitted his dribbling is one of his strongest assets: “Yeah, I think it’s one of my best qualities. My parents had really good technique with the ball, and they passed that on to me. If you see me, you might not expect it because of my height, but I can move really well with the ball.”
Barca watching closely
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick is reportedly preparing a special plan to deal with Woltemade.
Spanish outlet Diario Sport claimed Ronald Araujo was rested at the weekend to be fully fit for the challenge of handling Newcastle’s tall forward.
With Gavi and Alejandro Balde ruled out and Lamine Yamal doubtful, Barca arrive with issues of their own.
But Flick has identified Woltemade as a threat who could tilt the game in Newcastle’s favor under the St James’ Park lights.

The Toon Army will hope Woltemade’s confidence translates into goals against one of Europe’s giants. And if he really plays like Ibrahimovic, Newcastle may just get a night to remember.
