For Newcastle United, the search for reliable firepower has stretched across two transfer windows with mixed outcomes.

The departures and uncertainty around Alexander Isak forced the club into late business when Yoane Wissa arrived from Brentford and Nick Woltemade joined from Stuttgart.

Yet reportedly, within St James’ Park there remains a firm belief that one more forward with proven Premier League experience is essential to carry the squad through a season of league and European demands.

According to CaughtOffside their search has landed at Selhurst Park with Newcastle identifying Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta as a potential option.

While Newcastle United are keen on the move Aston Villa and Leeds United are also interested.

Palace have reportedly placed a £40m [$54m] valuation on the Frenchman, who remains under contract until 2027 but has yet to agree fresh terms after talks stalled.

Mateta struck 17 goals in all competitions last season as Palace lifted the FA Cup and finished 12th in the league.

This season, the Frenchman hasn’t started on bad note either and has one goal from three Premier League appearances this campaign in 261 minutes with an expected goals figure of 1.2.
