Ruben Amorim has offered an explanation as to why his new summer signing, Matheus Cunha, was not available for Manchester United's Premier League Summer Series win over Bournemouth,

United dominated The Cherries, running out 4-1 winners on Wednesday night local time in Chicago (July 30).

Rasmus Hojlund, Patrick Dorgu, Amad Diallo and 19-year-old prospect, Ethan Williams got on the scoresheet for United in The Windy City.

The victory marks a second successive win for Amorim's team in the pre-season tournament, after beating West Ham United 2-1 this past weekend.

The result was impressive considering Amorim did not have Cunha at his disposal, with the £62.5m signing from Wolves not named in the match-day squad.

This came after Cunha started his new club's first two pre-season games against Leeds United and West Ham.

Why was Cunha not included against Bournemouth?

Amorim explained his new forward's absence from the win over Andoni Iraola's side, commenting: "Cunha has fatigue. We need to assess all the players and we have to be careful with everyone."

However, Amorim allayed any fears about an injury or knock and confirmed when the Brazilian would be back on the pitch for United.

"He’s available for the next one (against Everton on August 3). Matheus felt a little bit fatigued. He was ready to play, he wants to give everything but we need to be careful.”

Other new attacking arrival, Bryan Mbuemo, did also not feature for Amorim's side in Chicago.

The United boss mentioned to MUTV after beating West Ham that the Cameroonian forward would not play against Bournemouth due to being behind schedule in terms of fitness and match readiness compared to other players.

The £71m addition from Brentford is in with a chance of making his first United appearance in the club's final Summer Series fixture against Everton in Atlanta this coming Sunday.
