Manchester United’s season is already on shaky ground, and the mood inside the dressing room tells the story.
Players are reportedly stunned by the team’s poor start, which has left them sitting 14th in the Premier League table after just six games.
The Red Devils have lost three of those matches, including a painful 3-1 defeat to Brentford, and were also dumped out of the Carabao Cup by League Two side Grimsby Town.
This is not the script anyone at Old Trafford expected. After a heavy summer of spending on names like Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, optimism ran high during a strong pre-season in the United States.
But Ruben Amorim’s side has struggled to find momentum, and patience is wearing thin among supporters and players alike.

Ruben Amorim under the microscope
Reports suggest some squad members are baffled by the lack of progress under Amorim. His record of just 34 points from 33 league games since taking charge in November 2024 is drawing attention.
Games | Wins | Draws | Defeats | Goal Difference | Win Ratio | Points | Points Per Game |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
33 | 9 | 7 | 17 | -14 | 27.27% | 34 | 1.03 |
Amorim, however, remains calm. “When you win you feel that everything, the momentum is here,” he said after the Brentford loss.
“When you lose, you go back to the same place and you fight again for one win that can help you to create the momentum. I’m always confident because I know what to do.”
Speculation over replacements is growing. Former England boss Gareth Southgate has been tipped by pundits as a possible fit, while ex-Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez is reportedly studying the Premier League in case an opportunity arises.
Other Premier League managers, including Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola, are also rumored to be on United’s radar.
United’s next fixtures offer no comfort, with matches against Sunderland, Liverpool, Brighton, and Tottenham on the horizon.
Another bad run could turn a slow start into a full-blown crisis. For now, the squad must regroup quickly if they want to stop this slide before it becomes another lost season.
