Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim could be in the market for a new striker.

The Portuguese coach is under pressure at Old Trafford, despite being backed to remain in place by the club hierarchy, but results will decide his fate in the coming weeks.

The former Sporting CP chief was handed a sizeable transfer budget to work with over the summer despite the lack of European football on offer.

As part of an attacking refit, he spent £225m on Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, as Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho all moved on.

However, United's new-look attack have failed to fire so far, with Sesko managing just two Premier League goals compared to one and zero for Mbeumo and Cunha respectively.

Injuries and adjusting to their new setting has played a role, but United need goals to try and fight their way up the top-flight rankings, and Amorim could go for a bold solution.

As per reports from Spanish transfer experts Fichajes.net, Amorim is considering a shock offer for Argentina international Mateo Retegui, less than six months after he left Atalanta.

On the back of scoring a Golden Boot winning 25 Serie A goals last season, Retegui shocked the club, as he accepted a big-money move to Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah.

The deal is rumoured to have cost his new side around €65m [£56m] and United would need to at least match that to stand any chance of brokering an exit deal.

Al Qadsiah are not looking for an offload, and it would likely need the player to push for a quickfire exit, and he will some convincing to swap  Khobar for Manchester based on his current salary in the Middle East.
