Manchester United are reportedly already making transfer plans for 2026 despite the uncertainty over Ruben Amorim's future at Old Trafford.

Amorim's time at United could come to an end after the October international following a dismal start to 2025/26 season for the Portuguese coach.

After promising a fresh start, on the back of finishing in a record low 15th place in the final Premier League rankings in 2024/25, the former Sporting CP boss has failed to deliver.

The United hierarchy are now considering his position with a decision expected in the coming weeks and Amorim potentially missing his one-year anniversary.

If Amorim is replaced, the new manager will be backed in the transfer market, with over £250m spent on new players over the summer.

With the club determined to end the negative cycle, a shortlist of possible new players has been drawn up, with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite back on their radar.

The England international has missed the start of the season due to injury, and United were rejected in their attempt to sign him in June.

As per the Daily Mirror, Everton will demand around £65m, with the 23-year-old under contract on Merseyside until 2030.

Everton are in a strong negotiating position, due to Branthwaite's contract status, but United could signal their intent in January with a £55m bid.

Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher is the other player being considered, with the Three Lions star struggling for game time in La Liga, but Diego Simeone's side could demand around £50m as per the Daily Express.

Gallagher faces a key call on his future, after the summer arrivals of Johnny Cardoso, Thiago Almada and Alex Baena, as he looks to keep his World Cup dream alive.

United are in need of a defensive leader, with Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt fighting for their futures, and the decline of Casemiro has hastened the need for a new midfielder.

Carlos Baleba is valued at double the price of Gallagher by Brighton & Hove Albion and United could offload Kobbie Mainoo to raise transfer funds.
