Despite a disastrous spell at Bayer Leverkusen, Erik ten Hag could be set for a quick return to management.

Leverkusen was thought to be the club that Ten Hag could rebuild his reputation following his sacking from Manchester United. However, he was shown the door after just two Bundesliga matches.

Ten Hag was a highly rated coach during his tenure at Ajax, where he won the Eredivisie three times. He also came close to taking the Dutch side to the Champions League final in the 2018/19 season.

His team beat Real Madrid and Juventus, but were knocked out in the semifinals by Tottenham Hotspur, thanks to two late goals from Lucas Moura.

United was always going to be a difficult job for Ten Hag, as it is for all managers in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era at the club.

Ten Hag won the EFL Cup and the FA Cup with United. It was the FA Cup win over Manchester City that led to the club making the emotional decision to keep him.

The Dutchman was sacked following a 2-1 defeat to West Ham United in the Premier League last year. However, his replacement, Ruben Amorim, has not been able to improve the side.

Where could Erik ten Hag return to management?

Ten Hag needs to find a club where he will be given time after his very short spell with Leverkusen. This could be at his former club, Ajax.

According to De Telegraaf, Ten Hag is open to returning to Ajax, and the club is considering bringing him back.

Johnny Heitinga is currently in charge at Ajax, but they have just suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Marseille in the Champions League. However, they are still third and undefeated in the Eredivisie right now.
