Manchester City have reached agreements in principle for new contracts for Ruben Dias and Nico O’Reilly as the club looks to secure the long-term futures of key squad members ahead of the upcoming season.

According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Dias, whose current deal runs until 2027, is expected to extend his stay at the Etihad.

The Portugal international has made 222 appearances for City since joining from Benfica for £65 million in 2020, winning four Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FA Cup.

O’Reilly, meanwhile, remains under contract until 2028 but has also agreed to fresh terms following his breakout season.

A natural midfielder, O’Reilly filled in at left-back during City’s injury crisis earlier this year, impressing with his maturity and versatility.

The exact length of the proposed extensions for both Dias and O’Reilly have not yet been confirmed.

This follows reports from Fabrizio Romano that the club are also preparing a new lucrative contract offer for defensive midfielder Rodri, who missed much of last season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Incomings and Outgoings at City

Dias and O’Reilly’s extensions will certainly be positive signals for City fans, as will the club’s desire to tie Rodri down to a long-term deal.

With manager Pep Guardiola also committing his future to the club last November with a new deal through to 2027, it seems as though City are quietly preparing to bounce back from their uncharacteristically poor campaign last time out.

They have already completed six signings this summer, adding Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Sverre Nypan and goalkeepers James Trafford and Marcus Bettinelli to the squad.

While contract renewals are welcome news for City fans, outgoings are still expected before the September 1 transfer deadline.

Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips are both reportedly available, though no formal offers have been made for either player.

James McAtee has also attracted interest, with BBC Sport reporting that Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, and clubs in the Bundesliga are monitoring the young midfielder’s situation.

Guardiola’s side kick off their 2025/26 Premier League campaign on August 16 away to Wolves.
