Bernardo Silva has spoken out about his Manchester City future, but the midfielder is keeping the final decision close to his chest.

The Portuguese star’s contract runs out at the end of the season, and with big names already leaving the Etihad, fans are watching this one closely.

The 31-year-old has been one of Pep Guardiola’s most trusted players since arriving from Monaco in 2017.

Now, eight years later, he finds himself back in the Principality to face his old club in the Champions League. But this trip came with questions about whether he will stay or go when the season ends.

“I know exactly what I’m going to do but it’s not the time to talk about it,” Silva told reporters ahead of the Monaco clash.

“It’s time to focus on Man City, to try to do my best to put the club back where it belongs.”

Bernardo Silva's current role at Man City

Bernardo was made club captain in the summer after the departures of senior figures like Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker.

That leadership role has put him at the heart of the dressing room. “Manchester City was so successful in the last eight years not because one captain was really good but because we have a group of great leaders,” he explained.

He also revealed his duties extend beyond the pitch. “As the first captain you have to make sure some things don’t happen — to create that environment. My job now is to try to create that energy, that chemistry as a group of captains… so people behave in the right way.”

It’s a role former teammate Vincent Kompany once predicted for him.

Back in 2019, Kompany joked Bernardo was “50% clown, 50% leader” and would one day strike the balance as captain. Silva admitted Kompany reminded him of that when he got the armband.

For now, Silva is keeping his cards hidden. Linked with Benfica and Saudi Arabia, he insists his focus is on helping City rediscover their edge after a rare trophyless season.
