Liverpool remain on the transfer trail of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.
As part of a dramatic transfer deadline day at Anfield, the Reds secured a Premier League record-breaking deal to bring in Alexander Isak, but missed out on a late deal for Guehi.
Liverpool had agreed a £35m fee with Palace for the England international as the clock ticked down on the September 1 deadline.
However, the agreement fell apart as Palace were unable to sign a replacement in time, and Guehi remained Selhurst Park.
Club chairman Steve Parish had set his position as wanting to sell 25-year-old, to avoid losing him for free when his contract expires next summer, but Oliver Glasner was determined to keep him.
Glasner allegedly threaten to quit if Guehi was sold, with no replacement brought in, and his furious skipper has rejected any option to sign a contract extension.

Arne Slot is certain to revive his interest in the former Chelsea centre-back in 2026, but he is not expected to make a January move, despite Palace rumoured to be open to £25m offers.
Liverpool reportedly believe that is a 'bluff' from Palace to bring the Premier League champions back to the negotiating table at the start of 2026.
Slot is aware of interest in Guehi from Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, but the Dutchman is confident over Liverpool's chances, with rivals also wary on a January offer.

Former Liverpool star Emile Heskey has offered his take on the situation and warned the Reds hierarchy over City's ability to overpower them in the race.
"Guehi is arguably one of the best and most composed centre backs in the league," he told Aceodds.com.
"Come January it will be a different proposition. There’s no doubt he wants to come to Liverpool. But, there is always the possibility of a team hijacking the move in January.
"Especially Chelsea and City who can gazump anyone. But Liverpool is an institution and they’ll be confident of getting the deal done."
Liverpool return to Premier League action following the international break away at Burnley on September 14.
