Luis Suarez drops transfer hint over Darwin Nunez's Liverpool exit rumour image

Liverpool face a crucial call over Darwin Nunez's future heading 2025/26 season.

Arne Slot is planning multiple squad changes this summer with Dutch international Jeremie Frimpong already landing from Bayer Leverkusen.

Frimpong comes in as a direct replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back following his switch to Real Madrid.

The Reds hierarchy are still working on a deal to bring in Frimpong's former Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz as part of a club record transfer deal plus a bold swoop for Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez.

However, these acquisitions will need to be part financed by sales, with the misfiring Nunez rumoured to be top of Slot's exit list.

Harvey Elliott has also indicated his interest in moving on in search of regular match action but Nunez's sale would bring in the bigger transfer fee.

Darwin Nunez's Liverpool contract, sale price, transfer latest

Uruguay international Nunez remains Liverpool's current record transfer after the £72m [$98m] they paid Benfica for him back in 2022.

The 25-year-old forward is under contract at Anfield until 2028, and his transfer value remains high, despite a 2024/25 season tally of just five Premier League goals.

As per previous reports from the Daily Mirror, Liverpool rejected an offer from Saudi Pro League [SPL] side Al Hilal just before the FIFA Club World Cup after turning down £60m [$81.5m] offer from Al Nassr in January.

However, the situation has changed significantly since then, and Slot does not see a place for Nunez in his plans.

The main stumbling block appears to be a destination, as Nunez does not want a move to the Middle East, with a return to Benfica or a move to Atletico Madrid possibly on the cards.

Neither club will match the Saudi offers and that could lead to a stalemate which stretches on into August.

As the saga rolls on, former Reds forward - and Nunez's Uruguay teammate - Luis Suarez indicated the striker already knows what he wants to do.

"Every time we speak, I try to help him, but his decision is for himself. He knows what he wants to do and that is important for his future and his family."
