Liverpool stalwart reveals how close he was to leaving Anfield this summer image

Liverpool had a sensational summer transfer window where they invested around £446m on transfers to improve their roster even after winning the Premier League last season.

They made some major improvements in attack by securing players like Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.

The Reds also replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold with Jeremie Frimpong, and they also secured Milos Kerkez, following his excellent campaign for Bournemouth

With the Hungarian's inclusion, Andrew Robertson's future at Anfield was in doubt as Kostas Tsimikas decided to move on to Roma.

Even Robertson had the opportunity to move on as Atletico Madrid were interested in the Scottish international but eventually, he decided to fight for his place at Anfield.

The 31-year-old admitted that at one point he could have moved on to Spain in the recently concluded summer transfer window.

What did Robertson reveal about his potential departure from Liverpool this summer?

Robertson has been the longest serving member at Liverpool right now after his move to Atletico Madrid didn't materialize in the summer transfer window.

He has been a crucial part of Liverpool's transition under former coach Jurgen Klopp ever since he moved to Merseyside from Hull City back in 2017.

The Scotland international continues to be a valuable member in Arne Slot's roster as he brings valuable experience to this relatively young Liverpool roster.

However, Robertson revealed he was close considering a move to Atletico Madrid this summer, he told Stv News, “Maybe at one point. I do want to play games and be the starting left-back and I have got to keep pushing to try to produce the levels I know I can do.

“The international break was good for me as I was able to get two 90 minutes, get that match fitness and two really good results for Scotland and I took a lot of confidence from that.

“He (Kerkez) is only young and I think we forget that. You try to help them as much as you can but you want to put pressure on them and you want to play games.

“He will be the starting left-back for Liverpool in the future and it’s up to me to push him this season and help him improve."

The 31-year-old played a crucial role in helping Liverpool secure a 1-0 win over Burnley after coming on for Kerkez in the 38th minute.

Robertson brought calmness and solidity on the left flank nullifying Burnley's attack which eventually allowed Mohamed Salah to bury a late penalty, helping Liverpool to keep up their perfect start to the new Premier League season.
