With Ibrahima Konate's contract coming to an end next summer, the Reds wanted Guehi to replace him in the starting eleven, playing alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the defense.
There have been several reports suggesting Real Madrid's interest in Konate as Los Blancos are looking to sign the Frenchman on free transfer after his contract runs out, just like they did with Trent Alexander-Arnold in this window.

According to Fabrizio Romano's recent report, Real Madrid have placed Konate at the top of their transfer wish list.
There have been reports about Los Blancos also eyeing a move for Bayern Munich's Dayot Upamecano and Crystal Palace's Guehi.
Interestingly, both the centre-backs will be available in the market for free next summer as their current contracts are coming to an end.

Konate has been a stalwart for Liverpool last season in their Premier League triumph under Arne Slot.
The 26-year-old has also been a mainstay for France under Didier Deschamps and is looking set to be a crucial member for Les Blues heading into next year's World Cup.
However, during the international break, Konate revealed Kylian Mbappe's influence in trying to convince him to move to Real Madrid.
“Mbappé pressuring me to join Real Madrid? He calls me every two hours! (laughs), " Konate told in an interaction with Telefoot.
Konate played a big role for France in their 2-0 win over Ukraine in the World Cup qualifiers at Wroclaw Stadium in Poland.
