Liverpool offered 'second chance' on Marc Guehi as England star demands exit image

Liverpool's transfer deadline day ended  in Alexander Isak elation balanced against frustration over Marc Guehi.

As the defending Premier League champions clinched a £125m recording-breaking deal for Isak, the club quickly turned full focus on Guehi, in the hours of the window.

Despite agreeing a £35m fee for the Crystal Palace centre-back, with the Eagles captain undergoing a medical ahead of a move to Anfield, the transfer imploded just before the deadline.

Club chairman Steve Parish was eager to sell his star defender, to avoid a free transfer exit when his contract expires next summer, but head coach Oliver Glasner blocked it.

Amid rumours of Glasner threatening to walk out if a replacement was not signed - after the FA Cup holders missed out on Igor Julio - Palace called off the deal and Guehi remained.

The 25-year-old is rumoured to be furious over the situation and will reject all renewal offers at Selhurst Park.

With Real Madrid also linked with the former Chelsea star, Liverpool have two choices available, make a January offer or wait to secure him as a free agent in June 2026.

Contract rules means Los Blancos can start talks in January, but Liverpool are not able to formally make an offer until the summer, and Palace are hoping to take advantage of that.

As per reports from Football Insider, Palace will hand Liverpool a reduced £25m deal, to block a possible pre-contract offer from elsewhere.

Slot will assess his options in the coming months, but with Ibrahima Konate expected to leave in 2026, Guehi remains firmly on his radar.
