Liverpool have reached a vital breakthrough in their attempts to offload Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich.

The Reds are planning several big-name sales before the start of their Premier League title defence in 2025/26 on the back of a big-spending summer from Arne Slot.

The Dutch coach has set a new Premier League transfer record, following the arrival of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, with Hugo Ekitike's move from Eintracht Frankfurt bringing the overall outlay up to £265m.

With just £54m coming in from sales, Slot has been instructed to sell high-value names, that he can build a squad without in the months ahead.

Bayern Munich's frustration in transfer pushes for Wirtz and Nico Williams has led Vincent Kompany back to Diaz and an agreement is close.

The Bavarians have seen two offers rejected upon landing at Anfield, as the Liverpool hierarchy held firm over their lofty asking price, as Diaz delayed on a future decision.

The Colombian rejected two contract renewal offers on Merseyside, as he requested a major salary increase, with his current deal expiring in 2027.

Liverpool have since reached out to Bayern Munich to confirm what they will accept from the Bundesliga champions.

Liverpool accept Luis Diaz exit offer after Bayern breakthrough

As per multiple reports, Liverpool have accepted a £65m [€75m] offer, which will include performance-related add-ons to potentially increase the overall deal to £75m [€85m].

Diaz is on course to sign a five-year deal in Munich, as Slot and Liverpool prepare to sever ties with the 28-year-old, after three and half seasons with the Reds.

He registered 13 goals in league action in 2024/25, and 17 across all competitions, registering as his best-ever season - but the club are looking to move in a different direction with Wirtz, Ekitike and potentially Alexander Isak.

Diaz has been granted permission to leave Liverpool's preseason camp in Hong Kong - ahead of their flight to Japan - after missing the 4-2 loss to AC Milan in Kowloon.

Darwin Nunez of Liverpool

Darwin Nunez also missed that game, as the Uruguayan eyes up offers from Serie A and the Saudi Pro League, and his combined exit with Diaz could bring in £110m which could fund a £150m offer for Isak.

Eddie Howe has confirmed the Swede is considering an exit from the Magpies after requesting to be left out of their own preseason trip to Asia.

Liverpool face Yokohama F Marinos on July 30, before returning to England, with a friendly double header scheduled against Athletic Club at Anfield on August 4.
