Liverpool legend questions Mohamed Salah's form since signing an extension image

Mohamed Salah's recent output for Liverpool has been put into question amid a disappointing spell for him.

The Egyptian has struggled in front of goal this season, netting just three goals, while he is currently on a six-game scoring drought for The Reds.

The 33-year-old was unable to make any significant impact during his team's 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday (October 19).

The failure to capitalise on a great second-half chance on his favoured left foot inside the penalty area highlighted the lack of cutting edge Salah has currently.

The forward's all-round game has also come in for criticism, as pundits and fans have pointed out that his lack of defensive effort has subsequently made the team's defensive structure much worse.

Salah's troubled spell has coincided with Arne Slot's team currently enduring a four-match losing run in all competitions.

Former Liverpool star criticises Salah for recent form

Among those to point out the lack of quality in Salah's game at this moment is Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson.

"He’s not been good enough," the former defender told talkSPORT. "We’re not worried about the fact that he misses chances, because that’s the nature of the way that he plays."

"But you’ve got to work hard for the team. It’s not like 10 teas and one coffee. It’s like 11 teas," Lawrenson stated.

The five-time First Division winner then suggested that Salah could not be performing to the best of his ability due to signing a new contract recently.

The Egyptian penned a new deal until 2027 back in April this year after his previous contract was set to run out after last season.

"You look at him now and he’s got his contract, and (is he) a little bit comfortable?" Lawrenson questioned.

"Is he really working hard enough to be in that team? You’d probably say no, and you say it with a little bit of trepidation."

The Liverpool icon then claimed that Slot needs to get on top of the issue with Salah, in addition to sorting out the rest of the team's problems.

"As a manager, you’d have to have the conversation with him and say, ‘We need a little bit extra,’ (and) they probably need a little bit extra from most of the team at the moment."

Salah and his Liverpool teammates will be hoping to return to winning ways when they travel to take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Wednesday night (October 22).
