Liverpool could make more moves in the January transfer window despite spending big this summer.
Arne Slot paid out £415m on new players, as the Premier League's highest spenders, but with £187m brought in via sales at an overall net spend of £228m [$307m] ahead of their attempted top-flight title defence in 2025/26.
Within the overall expenditure, Slot twice broke the Premier League transfer record, firstly with Florian Wirtz for £100m plus add-ons in June, before a deadline day £125m deal for Alexander Isak.
However, the Dutch coach is still looking at the long-term picture, and midfield is a key area of focus for the former Feyenoord boss.
The main name rumoured to be on Slot's radar is Crystal Palace schemer Adam Wharton despite being valued at £80m at Selhurst Park.
Relations are strained between the two clubs, following Palace's refusal to let Marc Guehi leave for Liverpool, in the final hours of the summer window.

Guehi now looks certain to leave Palace in 2026, with his contract expiring at the end of the campaign, but Liverpool will not be tempted into a cut-price January.
Despite the possibility of Real Madrid swooping in for the England international, Slot remains confident Guehi still wants the move to Merseyside, and will wait for him as a free agent.

Wharton's situation is starkly different, after impressing since his move from Blackburn Rovers at the start of 2024, with a contract until 2029.
As per the latest from Football Insider, Palace will not lower their asking price, but the club will only consider offers from next summer onwards with January not viewed as an exit option for the 21-year-old.
