David Moyes steadied the Everton ship when taking over from Sean Dyche last season to ensure the final season at Goodison Park did not end in relegation.

Moyes' side have started the new season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium well; they are currently eighth in the Premier League.

Everton were able to recruit some top players over the summer, including Jack Grealish on loan from Manchester City

The Toffees could be looking to raid City for another player in the upcoming transfer window. According to Football Insider, "Everton are setting their sights on Kalvin Phillips ahead of the January window."

Moyes had Phillips on loan from City when he was at West Ham United, but it was not a successful time for the player.

Phillips had been a top player for Leeds United and England. However, since moving to City he has struggled for game time, due to injuries and a lack of form.

His loan to West Ham was a chance to show that he could still perform at the highest level. However, it was a disaster as he made a catalogue of errors and ended up making just 10 appearances without playing a full 90 minutes.

Phillips still managed to go on loan to another Premier League club last season, Ipswich Town. However, he only played 22 games, and the Tractor Boys were relegated.

This campaign, Phillips has made just one appearance for City; coming on as a late substitute in a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town in the EFL Cup.

He needs to leave Pep Guardiola's side to ensure regular playing time. However, it is a surprise that Moyes would take another chance on Phillips after the midfielder was so poor for him at West Ham.
