A former Crystal Palace manager has expressed his sympathy for Marc Guehi after the defender missed out on a transfer to Liverpool.
The 25-year-old looked to be on his way to Anfield after his current side agreed a deal worth £35m with the Merseyside club on the final day of the summer transfer window.
Guehi even underwent his medical in London as he appeared very close to securing a switch to Arne Slot's side. Igor Julio was being lined up to join Palace from Brighton as a replacement for Guehi.
However, Julio eventually decided against moving to The Eagles, opting for a move to West Ham United instead.
Palace boss Oliver Glasner was insistent throughout the final days of the window over not letting his captain depart if no adequate replacement was bought in.
The Austrian's wish was granted as Guehi was made to stay put by Palace, with his move to being Liverpool firmly off.
Despite being strongly linked with a move to the Premier League holders over recent months, Guehi had remained committed to Palace while he was contracted to the club and did not force to be sold.

Former Palace manager Roy Hodgson, who coached Guehi between 2023-2024, feels for the England international in this particular situation.
"I found him an outstanding individual, not just an outstanding footballer. That's been shown quite clearly during this long, drawn-out saga," Hodgson told talkSPORT.
"He's the person I feel really sorry for. Having been led to believe a deal would be done between the clubs, I guess his head for the last period of time has been he was going to move. He's the loser in the situation," the ex-Eagles boss added.
Hodgson also feels that a deal should have been struck between Palace and Liverpool earlier in the transfer window as it is unclear how the centre-back will now react to the recent events.
"It remains to be seen how upset he may have been by what's happened during these past few hours. I think the transfer situation could have been sorted out much quicker between both clubs."
Despite a move not materialising this summer, Guehi's future seemingly still belongs away from Selhurst Park.
The defender's contract expires next summer and it is highly unlikely he commits to a new deal. There is the possibility he even moves in the January transfer window, as that will be the final opportunity for Palace to receive money for their skipper.
