Moises Caicedo has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season, with the Chelsea star coming in for much praise by fans and pundits.

The Ecuadorian was particularly impressive in The Blues' dramatic 2-1 victory over Liverpool last Saturday (October 4), as his brilliant strike from outside the penalty box opened the scoring in the first half.

This marked the defensive midfielder's third goal in the league already this season, which is more than he recorded in his first two seasons at Stamford Bridge combined.

The 23-year-old has done more than just score to influence games for his team though, as his all-action displays in the midfield this season have been very dominant.

Caicedo has consistently excelled in winning the ball back and breaking up the opposition team's play, while also offering plenty on the ball when Enzo Maresca's side look to build-up in possession.

The former Brighton star has often demonstrated his capabilities since joining Chelsea in a deal worth up to £115m in 2023, but now he appears to be taking his talents to another level.

Ex-Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has been among those to recognise Caicedo's quality displays this season and believes no one is performing the Ecuadorian's role better at this moment.

"He's the best holding (midfield) player in the world right now," the two-time Premier League winner told talkSPORT. "I think there's no one better."

"If Rodri's fit and playing at his best, you say Rodri. But right now he's struggling with his injuries. If you're talking right now, there's no better (than Caicedo)."

Mikel then touched on what makes Caicedo stand out among other current defensive midfielders in the world.

"There's no better at breaking up plays and sitting there, initiating attacks. He's driving the ball forward. He's scoring goals, he's doing everything," he explained.

"He's having a brilliant season and he's so young as well. He has so much room to improve."

Caicedo was not called up for Ecuador's friendlies against the USA and Mexico in this month's international break, so he will be able to rest up in London.

The player will be looking to keep up his impressive run of form when Chelsea visit Nottingham Forest on October 18.
