Mike Maignan agreed terms with Chelsea during the transfer window, but the Premier League side could not finalise a deal with AC Milan.

The goalkeeper is now free to leave Milan at the end of the season when his contract expires.

TBR Football has reported that "Chelsea remain interested in Mike Maignan and are ready to make a move to land him on a pre-contract in January."

Would signing Mike Maignan make Chelsea title contenders?

Chelsea is undefeated and second only to Liverpool in the Premier League. However, we are only three games into the campaign, and there are doubts as to whether Enzo Maresca's side can challenge for the title.

Despite having an impressive Club World Cup, which Chelsea won, many of their fans still do not rate their current goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez.

The Blues have spent drastically on their squad, so they should be title challengers. However, it is believed that a top-class goalkeeper is the missing piece in their team.

Sanchez has not had a bad start to the new season, only conceding once. That goal was a wonder strike from Lucas Paqueta in a 5-1 win over the Hammers.

Maignan's Serie A campaign with Milan began badly as he conceded twice in a 2-1 loss to Cremonese. However, he then kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Lecce.
