Chelsea started off the 2025/26 season with some excellent results, but things started to go downhill when they lost 3-1 against Bayern Munich in Champions League

The Blues followed it up with another frustrating 2-1 defeat against Manchester United and their losing streak continued when they fell again to Brighton 3-1 at the Stamford Bridge.

However, Enzo Maresca's men have broken the streak with a 1-0 win over Benfica in Champions League and now will hope to carry that momentum in Premier League when they will host leaders Liverpool on Saturday.

Before the big clash, Maresca provided a major update on Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia's availability against the Reds.

Considering injury and suspensions for the Blues, Lavia's return from injury is a big relief for the Italian manager as he also confirms that the youngster could be on the bench against Liverpool.

"Romeo is ready to play. With Romeo, we are trying to do exactly the same that we have done with Wes and with Reece," Maresca stated when asked about Lavia's availability as quoted by Bobby Vincent

"Now we are in a much better position for both of them. Unfortunately, at this moment, Wes is out, but not for any physical problem. It's just for the concussion against Lincoln.

"The target with Romeo is that we can help him and we can bring him in the same condition as Wes and Reece, where they can play games. As you can see now, Reece is playing more games without problems. Hopefully, we can do the same with Romeo."

Chelsea set to miss several players against Liverpool

Chelsea have been suffering from injury and disciplinary issues in the recent few games. While injuries have definitely derailed their season but what has hurt them the most has to be incessant red cards.

In the last four games across competitions, Chelsea players have received three red cards with the only exceptional being against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup.

Chelsea will miss Levi Colwill and Dario Essugo in this fixture as they are long term absentees while Liam Delap is not scheduled to return until November.

Apart from the long-term absentees, Tosin Adarabioyo, Andrey Santos and Cole Palmer are also injured and doubtful for this match whereas Trevoh Chalobah is suspended.

With so many injuries and suspensions, Maresca may be forced to start with Josh Acheampong and Benoit Badiashile at the heart of the defense.

It would be interesting to see how they hold up against Liverpool's potent attack comprising of Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, etc.

All eyes will be on Lavia, who is expected to play a role in this Liverpool clash albeit from the bench. He was on the bench against Benfica but was left as an unused substitute.
