Chelsea suffered a 3-1 loss against Bayern Munich in their first Champions League match of the season on September 17 at Allianz Arena.
The Blues' Trevoh Chalobah netted an own goal, handing Bayern a lead in the 20th minute. The home side were then awarded a penalty for Moises Caicedo's tackle on Harry Kane, who successfully converted it to double their lead in the 27th minute.
Chelsea's sole goal of the match came with Cole Palmer finding the back of the net after being set up by Malo Gusto in the 29th minute.
Kane struck again, taking Bayern's goal tally to three from an assist by Serge Gnabry in the 63rd minute.
Even though Palmer was able to net another for Chelsea in the concluding minutes of the match, the goal was ruled out by VAR for being offside.
Following their defeat in the competition's opening match, Palmer mentioned that the Blues conceded all three goals due to their 'own fault,' while claiming that his side 'deserved better' in the game.

Cole Palmer reveals what Chelsea 'want' after Champions League opener defeat to Bayern Munich
Despite candidly admitting that their 'mistakes' resulted in their loss against Bayern, Palmer believes that the Blues pulled off a display that showed they 'can play against the best teams in the competition.'
The 23-year-old also stated that Chelsea 'want to compete' in the Champions League rather than making out the campaign to be a 'learning curve.'
"I thought we played well. We've shown we deserve to play here. The three goals we conceded were our own fault. We had chances. We deserved better than what we got. We started well. We had early chances to score, but when you make mistakes at the back it's always difficult to come back into the game. It was a lack of concentration, and not managing the moments correctly. I feel like we showed we can play against the best teams in the competition," as per GOAL.
"The manager said to us before (the game) that he knows we can go toe-to-toe. I think we showed that despite the result. To be back in the competition is nice, we just need to kick on from here. We are not coming here for it to be a learning curve. We want to compete."
Chelsea are now headed to face Manchester United in the Premier League on September 20 at Old Trafford. The Blues are pitted against Benfica in their next Champions League clash on September 30 at Stamford Bridge.
