Barcelona attacker Fermin Lopez has emerged as a target for Chelsea in the final days of the summer transfer window.

Though the Blues have been prioritising a move for Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho, it now looks like Lopez could be signed as an alternative to at least one of the two.

It has been claimed that Chelsea have already made a move for the player, who made 46 appearances for Barcelona last season.

Even though Hansi Flick is reluctant to sell the versatile midfielder, a move could be possible.

To lure the midfielder to Stamford Bridge, Enzo Maresca has reportedly made the player a big promise as well.

However, it remains to be seen whether the Italian manager can keep his word, given all the attacking talent at his disposal.

Chelsea offer Fermin Lopez a leading role in the team

Earlier this year, it was reported that Maresca is a fan of Lopez and would like to add him to his Chelsea squad.

Now, the Chelsea manager could be set to make the player a part of his team.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Lopez has been guaranteed a starring role at Chelsea if he joins the Blues this summer.

Maresca already has the likes of Cole Palmer, Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens. And if Chelsea do go on to sign Garnacho, for example, that is another forward player whom Lopez may have to compete against.

But the Spaniard is a versatile player who can operate as an attacking midfielder and a left winger, while he also has experience playing in central midfield. That versatility is perhaps one reason why Lopez appeals to Maresca and the Chelsea management.

According to the report, Chelsea have given Lopez a 48-hour deadline to respond to their interest. If the Blues do manage to land Lopez, it might impact their pursuit of Garnacho and Simons.
