Ben Chilwell has completed a permanent move to RC Strasbourg, signing a two-year contract with the Ligue 1 club as he looks to reignite his career in France.
The move ends Chilwell’s five-year spell at Chelsea, where he was an integral part of the Blues’ sides that won the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup under Thomas Tuchel.
Strasbourg, who are owned by Chelsea’s parent company BlueCo, confirmed the signing on deadline day (September 1).
The 28-year-old heads to Ligue 1 after reduced opportunities at Stamford Bridge and an overall underwhelming loan spell at Crystal Palace last season.

Chilwell’s farewell message
Shortly after his transfer to Strasbourg was confirmed, Chilwell took to social media to thank Chelsea supporters for their backing during his time in London.
“Chelsea fans, firstly, thank you!” Chilwell wrote on Instagram.
“We won the Champions League together, made a bond like I’d never have imagined and I met brothers for life on and off the pitch here.
“You helped me through the tough times, injuries, and personal life, and gave me the best moments of my life.
I’ll never be able to thank you guys enough, looking forward to showing everyone my best. See you soon, Chilly.”
Chilwell joined Chelsea from Leicester City in 2020 and went on to make over 100 appearances across all competitions, scoring nine goals and adding 13 assists.
But frequent injuries, coupled with tactical changes under a series of managers, have restricted his impact in recent seasons and seen him lose his place in the squad to Marc Cucurella.
At Strasbourg, he is expected to slot straight into the starting lineup, with the French club viewing him as an experienced addition capable of stabilizing their defense.
