Brentford boss admits Yoane Wissa 'not ready' to return amid Newcastle offer image

Brentford are facing another key player exit ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

It's been a summer of major changes at the Gtech Community Stadium with boss Thomas Frank leaving for Tottenham after six-and-a-half years in charge of the Bees.

Last season's top scorer Bryan Mbeumo accepted a move to Manchester United on the back of scoring 20 top-flight goals in 2024/25 and his former strike partner Yoane Wissa is also looking to move on.

The DR Congo international is rumoured to be furious with the club for not sanctioning an exit amid reports of an agreement that he could leave if an acceptable transfer offer arrived from a UEFA Champions League club.

The 28-year-old bagged 19 Premier League goals last season and wants to move on to test himself in European competition.

Brentford have rejected an offer of £25m from two Premier League sides, as they value Wissa at double that figure, but Newcastle United are prepared to make an increased bid.

Eddie Howe is planning for a late window exit for Alexander Isak, with Wissa firmly on his radar, after missing out on Benjamin Sesko.

The Magpies are willing to up their offer to around £40m, but it remains unclear if Brentford will accept that, as they chase Bournemouth's Dango Ouattara as a possible replacement.

New Brentford boss Keith Andrews allowed Wissa to leave their preseason camp in Portugal to return to London and he confirmed the forward is still unavailable for selection.

"It's very hard to know what will happen. I'd like Wissa to be part of the first team. Where that will end, I'm not sure. But, we want him to stay," as per BBC Sport.

"I've made a decision and he's not available. It's been a very disrupted preseason and the interest in Yoane is very clear. He's not in the right space.

"I want Yoane to be in the building and part of the first team squad. But, I'm very understanding of his situation."

Andrews takes charge of his first Premier League game - after being promoted from Frank's ex-set piece coach - at Nottingham Forest on August 17.
