Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski is set for a busy first half to the 2025/26 season.

The veteran forward has rejected suggestions he could leave Catalonia this summer, amid renewed interest from the Saudi Pro League, with his immediate future set at Barcelona.

The former Bayern Munich striker is under contract with Hansi Flick's side until June 2026 with both parties remaining open to activating a clause to extend that for the 2026/27 season.

His performance level will be monitored closely in the months ahead, but his vital role in Barcelona's trophy treble win last season keeps confidence high, despite him turning 37 next month.

He bagged 27 La Liga goals in 2024/25, and 42 in all competitions, the highest in both metrics in his three seasons in Spain.

However, his schedule will be intensified from September onwards, amid an ongoing drive to bring him back into the Poland national team.

Lewandowski confirmed his intention to retire from international football in June following a high-profile dispute with former head coach Michal Probierz over his omission from two summer matches

New Poland chief Jan Urban has instantly confirmed he will speak with Lewandowski over a recall as his first act following Probierz's sacking.

Why did Robert Lewandowski retire from Poland duty?

Lewandowski initially stated he and Probierz agreed he would not join up for the June games as part of a solution to allow him to rest after a demanding season with Barcelona.

An injury in the final weeks of the domestic campaign caused concern, and with no FIFA Club World Cup on the horizon, an opportunity was seized to grant Lewandowski an extended summer break.

However, the situation exploded when Probierz opted to replace Lewandowski as Poland captain - with Piotr Zielinski installed - and the forward stepped down from international duty.

"There has been a loss of trust in the coach, I have decided to resign from playing for the Poland national team for as long as he remains in charge."

Lewandowski is Poland's record appearance maker and goal scorer - with an impressive 85 goals scored in 158 games - and Urban is clear in his reunion mission.

"I will do everything possible to bring Robert Lewandowski back to the national team.

"Age? Sorry, his numbers are excellent, and he's doing it in the Spanish league, not Saudi Arabia. Robert is a very important figure in our national team."

When could Lewandowski return to Poland squad?

Urban's comment will be treated with caution in Barcelona, as Flick wats to have his No.9 in perfect condition, and extra games could jeopardise that.

Lewandowski has previously stated his desire to come back - if Probierz was removed from his role - and he featured in Poland's two World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and Malta in March.

He missed June's defeat in Finland, which dented qualification hopes, but an immediate September return is on the cards - with five qualifiers left.

He is not expected to play in friendlies and could be rested if Poland qualify before November's campaign finale.
