Barcelona loanee Ansu Fati has made history in AS Monaco's 2-2 draw against Nice in their seventh Ligue 1 clash of the campaign on October 5.
After conceding two goals before the first half stoppage time, Fati successfully converted both penalties awarded to Monaco and was awarded the Player of the Match. By scoring this brace, the 22-year-old star became the fastest player to net five goals on debut in the league, achieving the milestone in just 126 minutes on the pitch.
With this feat, Fati surpassed Johan Audel, who broke the record in 137 minutes in the 2007–08 season, followed by former Monaco star Emmanuel Riviere, who achieved the same in 174 minutes also for Monaco in the 2013–14 season.
This record marks to be a great revival of Fati, who was once considered Lionel Messi's successor at Barcelona. The La Masia graduate's great display of potential was hindered by a meniscus injury in 2019, followed by several setbacks and an ineffective loan spell to Brighton & Hove Albion in 2023.
Back in July this year, Fati was loaned to Monaco for the entirety of the 2025/26 campaign with an option to buy. He, along with Strasbourg's Joaquin Panichelli, is currently the joint-top scorer in Ligue 1.
After scoring a brace in his league debut for Monaco, Fati highlighted the importance of the 'confidence' he regained, especially following his past struggles.

What did Barcelona academy graduate Ansu Fati say?
Speaking after his Ligue 1 debut, Fati shared his thoughts and said,
"Yes, of course. That's the case every time you score a goal and contribute something to the team. Those two goals helped us impose ourselves. It's a joy for me too, as a striker, to have that confidence," as per GOAL.
"The coach encouraged me and told me to make the most of it. We knew it wouldn't be easy; every match is important, and after a defeat, it's even more so. We managed to win; that was essential."
After scoring six goals in five matches across competitions for Monaco, Fati will be looking forward to increasing his goal contributions in their next league game against Angers SCO on October 18.
