Liverpool continued their perfect start to the 2025/26 season with a 2-1 Anfield derby win over Everton on September 20.
Arne Slot's defending Premier League champions remain top of the rankings with five wins from five games so far plus an opening victory against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
Despite their recent reputation for late winners, first-half goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike did the damage against David Moyes' visitors, to throw the title focus back on Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta lost 1-0 at Anfield in August, and his side are playing catch up to Liverpool, ahead of hosting Manchester City.
Arsenal have finished in second place across the last three seasons, twice to City, and last season in behind Slot.
With Liverpool in such dominant form, Arteta needs a positive result against City, and former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher believes there is no room for dropped points against Pep Guardiola.

"Liverpool have maybe got the best team in the Premier League this season. But in terms of squad, I think Arsenal's squad is fantastic ", he told Sky Sports.
"I think they have a great opportunity this season to win the title. I think facing City is a huge game for Arsenal, they cannot afford to be six points behind Liverpool at full time, not when they've got Newcastle away next week."
"Arsenal have well so far this season. But, Liverpool continuing to win puts pressure on, even at this early stage. They don't have to get three points against City but they don't want to be too far behind Liverpool."

Carragher's remarks will ramp up the pressure on Arsenal with Arteta's record against Guardiola showing signs of improvement.
In 18 Premier League clashes with Arsenal, Guardiola has won 13, with just two Arsenal victories, and three draws - but two of those draws and the two wins have come in the last two seasons.
