Arsenal are hoping to put their Champions League heartbreak from last season behind them.

Mikel Arteta's side lost 1-3 on aggregate in the semifinals to eventual winners Paris Saint-Germain.

Arsenal start their campaign on September 16 against Athletic Bilbao, who sit fifth in La Liga.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya is confident ahead of the competition's start and revealed the club's intent to win.

What did Raya say before Arsenal's Champions League opener?

Speaking to the media ahead of the match, Raya said, "We have belief, we want to win.

"We are Arsenal and we play to win. It is not a doubt; that is what we play to do. That is what we play football for."

Arsenal are second in the Premier League, having only lost one match to current title holders Liverpool.

Raya continued, "It's a long journey, a long season, in the Premier League and Champions League, so we are focused in the present.

"We want to go higher this season, that's what we want to do."

Speaking on what the club learned from last season's exit, the keeper said, "That it hurts a lot losing in the semi-final. You get more mature."
