Arsenal ended the summer Premier League transfer window as the second-highest spenders in behind defending champions Liverpool.

The Gunners outgoings column stood at £267m as the deadline struck with a complete squad refit undertaken by Mikel Arteta.

Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi and Eberechi Eze have all landed at the Emirates Stadium but a lack of sales has caused concerns.

The club hierarchy were hopeful over a flood of deadline day exits to balance the books in North London, but the final exit tally only registered at £10m - leaving Arsenal as the highest net spenders on £257m - with Liverpool on £218m.

Jakub Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson did all move on but Arteta was only able to secure loan moves for the quartet.

Kiwior's switch to Porto includes a purchase clause, but the big sale the club craved never materialised, despite encouraging Arteta to let at least one key player go.

Brazil international Gabriel Martinelli was tipped to leave - alongside Leandro Trossard - but no firm offers materialised for either player.

Reports from the Daily Mail claim Arsenal did receive interest from several European clubs on Martinelli but they were put off by a £60m asking price on the 24-year-old.

A £40m ceiling was set by clubs looking at the former Corinthians man, based on his expected reduction in role in 2025/26, but Arsenal refused to budge.

His retention means Arteta's attack is now bloated even further, as the pressure ramps up to secure a major trophy, after finishing second in the Premier League for three successive seasons.
