NBA star Steph Curry hasn't always been the confident person he is today.
In his new book, "Shot Ready," which officially released on Tuesday, September, 9, the Golden State Warriors point guard, 37, dishes on how he stopped comparing himself to others and the life lessons he's learned, both on and off the court, along the way.
"To this day, I sometimes wish I was a more physically imposing player. There are a lot of stronger, faster, more athletic guys in the NBA—especially defenders—who do their best to make my life miserable out there," Curry wrote in the book.
"I could get wrapped up in or distracted by that—but that wouldn’t change anything. I am my own type of basketball player. Do I wish I could just drive down the lane and dunk every play? Absolutely! But I have discovered there’s something even better than that sort of natural ability," he added.
"I wouldn’t have the confidence I have if I hadn’t had people tell me I was too small to be a threat on the court." - Steph Curry in "Shot Ready"
In his writing, Curry shares several pieces of advice that he lives by, including the old adage that things which come easy aren't always best.
"If something is handed to you or a task comes easy, you won’t get the chance to develop the drive you need to sustain excellence. I wouldn’t have the confidence I have if I hadn’t had people tell me I was too small to be a threat on the court," Curry proclaimed.
The 37-year-old NBA star had to craft habits of positive self-talk to build confidence, he admitted.

"I put the blinders on and compare myself to myself. What is the next limit I need to challenge myself to push past? I shoot a hundred threes at the end of every workout, which provides a specific measurement I can use to track my progression from day to day," the Warriors star wrote. "It allows me to be my own accountability partner."
Curry's new book is designed and illustrated with over 100 pages of striking photographs.
The NBA player is an 11-time NBA All-Star, four-time NBA Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist of the USA Basketball Men’s National Team.
