England enter the Ashes needing an answer to Nathan Lyon, a bowler who has controlled this contest for more than a decade.
Lyon's record in the baggy green is extraordinary, with 562 wickets and an economy under three, he has consistently been able to tie up one end.
Australia knows exactly what they get when he's called upon. England, instead, are investing in potential through Shoaib Bashir and Will Jacks, two players yet to face the intensity of an Ashes tour down under.

Who are the spinners England have selected for the Ashes?
Shoaib Bashir
At just 22 years of age, Bashir has been given the nod as England's first choice spinner.
His right-arm off-breaks have yielded 68 wickets from 19 tests, which has been enough to earn him the distinction of the youngest Englishman to reach 50.
Standing at 193 centimetres, his bounce could cause all kinds of issues for Aussie batsmen on the hard pitches they've become accustomed to in home series.
Bashir's preparations were disrupted by a broken finger that ruled him out of the last two Tests of England's series against India.
Although finger-spinners have typically been battered in Aussie conditions, Bashir's unique frame and top-spin could present a different problem to the home side.
Will Jacks
Jacks is a bold selection considering he's only played two Test matches so far in his young career.
Like Bashir, Jacks bowls off-breaks, however, his greatest strengths with the ball are his variations of pace that can fool batsmen who've lost concentration.
Against Pakistan on debut, Jacks took 6-for, and when you add in his power hitting credentials, he becomes an appealing all-rounder for the English middle-order.
It's unlikely that Jacks will be in the XI picked for Perth, however, as the series wears on, his versatility might be an important calling card.
