Getting run out is always a frustrating way to get dismissed in cricket and it's even more disappointing when it happens to a captain.

On Day 1 of the fifth Test between India and England at The Oval, Shubman Gill experienced exactly that.

A miscommunication with his partner led to a direct hit and Gill had to walk back at a time when India were trying to recover from two quick wickets.

With that moment, Gill became part of a short but notable list of Indian Test captains who have been dismissed via run out.

What happened to Shubman Gill on Day 1 of the 5th Test at The Oval?

It was the 28th over of the innings when the incident unfolded. Gill tapped the ball gently towards the off-side and took off for a single without checking with his batting partner Sai Sudharsan.

But Sudharsan didn’t respond at all. The ball went straight to England pacer Gus Atkinson, who collected it in his follow-through and hit the stumps directly at the striker’s end.

Gill, caught halfway down the pitch, couldn’t make it back in time. He was dismissed for 21 runs off 35 balls. It was a disappointing end to his innings.
