As India crawled to 204/6 by stumps, the bigger concern for the hosts may be Woakes’ availability going forward in the match.

With the series scoreline at 2-1 in England’s favour, the home side will want to finish strong but the absence of Woakes could seriously test their balance.

What exactly happened to Chris Woakes and how serious is the injury?

Chris Woakes hurt his left shoulder while chasing a ball towards mid-off during India’s first innings. He slipped awkwardly on the damp outfield and appeared to land heavily on his shoulder.

He stayed down for a while and needed help from the physio before walking back slowly to the dressing room.

England pacer Gus Atkinson, who was fielding nearby, also seemed concerned. Speaking to reporters, he admitted, “It doesn’t look great. It’s always sad to see someone go off like that, especially in the last game of a big series.”

After the scans following his awkward fall, England Cricket confirmed that he has been ruled out of the remainder of the Oval Test via social media.

The bowler ends his series with 11 wickets in 9 innings, having bowled 181 overs (the most in the series) with the best figures of 3/84.

When is Day 2 of the 5th Test and how has the match unfolded so far?

Day 2 of the fifth and final Test match begins on August 1, 2025, at The Oval in London.

So far, England have had the upper hand in the match. They bowled first and made early inroads, reducing India to 204/6 by stumps.

India’s top order collapsed once again, with Jaiswal (2), KL Rahul (14), and Shubman Gill (21) all falling cheaply.

Sai Sudharsan showed some grit with a 38-run knock, but it was Karun Nair who stood tall. His unbeaten 52 off 98 deliveries brought India some relief in what was otherwise a shaky batting display.
