The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is still up for grabs but India now have just one shot at holding on to it. After Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar's hundreds saved the fourth Test at Old Trafford, the five-match series stands 2-1 in England's favour.
A draw or a win for England in the final Test at The Oval will see them lift the newly inaugurated trophy. But if India square the series 2-2, they will retain the trophy by virtue of being the current holders.

That is because the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy follows the principle that a drawn series results in the defending side keeping it.
How India stayed alive in the 2025 Test series
India were staring at defeat after conceding a 311-run lead in the first innings in Manchester. They were 0 for 2 in their second innings and down a batter with Rishabh Pant unavailable to bat.
But Shubman Gill and KL Rahul put together a gutsy 188-run partnership to pull India out of trouble. After their dismissals, Jadeja and Sundar took over.
England tried everything, including an early handshake offer from Ben Stokes with over 15 overs remaining. But the Indian pair turned down the offer and chose to continue batting before reaching their centuries, helping India bat out on the final day.

Who will get the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy if India vs England series ends in a draw?
The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy replaces the Pataudi Trophy (for England-hosted series) and the Anthony de Mello Trophy (for India-hosted series). Since India won the last series at home in 2023-24, they are the holders of the trophy. That means a 2-2 result will be enough to retain it.
What's next for India?
The fifth and final Test starts July 31 at The Oval. India may need to make changes with Rishabh Pant ruled out for the match. Narayan Jagadeesan has been announced as his replacement in the squad.
Dhruv Jurel is expected to take over the wicket-keeping duties while Jasprit Bumrah's availability remains uncertain with the series still on the line.
