How did changing balls affect the IND vs ENG 3rd Test?

During the first session of Day 2 of the Lord's Test, the Indian bowlers asked for a ball change as it appeared to be out of shape. India's request surprised the experts because they had just picked up three wickets with the same ball.

The ball was moving around despite being out of shape. Many believed they should have continued with the same ball when it had given the team success in the morning session.

India's decision eventually backfired as the changed ball was not very effective. Instead, it helped the batters, making run scoring a bit easier.

Michael Vaughan, during his post-day review at Cricbuzz, shared his opinions about the change of balls while also hilariously slamming the bowlers.

Why does Michael Vaughan believe bowlers are dumb?

Talking to Dinesh Karthik, Vaughan laughed and said:

"I am a believer that bowlers are a bit dumb sometimes. I have watched cricket for a number of years, and when you've got a ball that is moving around, I don't care how big it is, I don't care what shape it's in. You've just got three wickets."

"Mohmmad Siraj looks to me like he is taking on his own to the umpire for changing the ball. All the rest of the team should have gone, whacked Siraj on the head and said, 'What are you doing? The ball is moving around.' That is a big play in the game, because the changed ball arrived, and it did nothing," added Vaughan.

"For the first eight overs of the day, the pitch looked great, it quickened up, and the ball was flying off the pitch. Suddenly, they changed the ball, and that zip off the surface stopped."

Lord's Test Day 2 stumps: England ahead with India 3 down

The second day of the Lord's Test saw a fightback from the Indian bowlers, who grabbed three early wickets, but after the ball changed, things went a bit quiet.

Jamie Smith, along with Carse, stitched a crucial 84-run partnership as England finished their first innings with an above-par score of 387 runs.
